Diane E. Peterson, MSW, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the Fredericksburg area as a psychotherapist in private practice and prior to that at the Center for Brief Counseling since 1990. She also has worked with children and families in Stafford County Schools and at the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board.
She pursued her graduate work at the University of Minnesota and at the University of North Carolina receiving her Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her BA is from Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
Diane's professional interests include working with individuals with depression, anxiety and panic, grief and loss, chronic illness, trauma and abuse, and relationship issues. She works from a perspective informed by cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and competency-based therapies. She is further interested in teaching her clients coping skills and stress management skills that are based in the growing body of knowledge coming out of the field of mind-body medicine. She has completed the Advanced Mind-Body Medicine Training from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington DC.
